Vintage Halloween Treat Cone

Hello and Welcome!!!

I'm sharing a wonderful Halloween project today that is super easy to put together and is loads of fun to decorate! The talented Ignacio of Nicecrane Designs designed this Vintage Halloween Treat Cone which has multiple uses. You can hang these on a Halloween tree as ornaments, place candy in them for special trick or treaters or you can use them to jazz up your Halloween party table. Each cone prints on a 8.5 x 11" sheet in color and you also receive with this download three labels which can be used on candy jars or as a gift tag perhaps. You can see them below in the preview sheet by Nicecrane Designs.

Ignacio included cut lines so you know exactly where to fold each side. Here's how I assembled my Vintage Halloween Treat Cone. I used a paper trimmer and trimmed the sides (watch for the gray tab which is attached to one side, you need it to attach your cone so do not cut if off). On the larger ends I left 1/8th of an inch to see where the fold lines were and then I grabbed my Scor Pal and using the score lines I scored my cone. It gives your treat cone nice clean lines and double stick tape was used to join the gray tab to the cone. Now for the fun part which is decorating these. I used black lace trim for the top because they happen to be for two special girls I know. :-) More ideas would be to punch a paper border, use ribbon, metal embellishments or buttons. I added orange trim to two sides and adhered with paper glue and orange tinsel created a nifty handle for my cone.

Best of all, Ignacio created another cone, Vintage Halloween Treat Cone II, which I will be sharing next week. Here's the preview sheet in case you are a bit curious to see it. ;)
{I love this one too!}

Make It Monday #144 with Nicecrane Designs

Before we kick off another linky party at Make It Monday I want to take a moment to say farewell to Meihsia Liu who is stepping down as a DT member. She has been a constant source of inspiration to me throughout the past year. Best of luck Meihsia in all of your crafty endeavors!

We're sponsored this week by the talented Ignacio of Nicecrane Designs. I am using a vintage image -Sugar and Spice 3 that you'll find in his online store. Here's a look at the preview sheet-Sugar and Spice DSL I where I found this beautiful image of two sisters to use on my thank you card.

I love her stamped background and colored image. Terrific pocket card Sonja!

and

#140 Linda B and Katie ;)

I love this project for so many reasons. First, it is beautiful (click her link to see the back side and more pictures) and the papers and embellishments are gorgeous. :) Second, this is what I call a "forever" project. Linda was visiting her nearly ten year old granddaughter, Katie, and shared her love of design and paper crafting with her. This project and the time spent with her grandma will be something Katie will remember and cherish forever, Linda too I'm sure. ;)

Thanks for sharing your talent ladies with all of us at Make It Monday!

I encourage you to drop by the DT's blogs for more inspiration featuring images from Nicecrane Designs. You can click their links on my right sidebar or by clicking HERE.

Birthday Greetings & an Altered Gift Bag

Hi everyone, I promised to share some gift ideas this week featuring vintage images from Nicecrane Designs. I love Victorian women and couldn't resist working with this collage sheet, Ladies on Old Postcards Vol. I, for my recycled shadow box. It was fun to create and I think my mom will enjoy receiving this on her birthday along with an updated gift bag which I'll share in a minute. First, here's how I altered the box portion of my project step by step...

I separated the box from the frame and used the box only since my mom
is an Alzheimer's patient. Safety first!

I removed the roses and applied a coat of white gesso to the entire box.

Torn paper layers by Glitz decorate the bottom and sides. I trimmed my
image and brushed it on with decoupage.

Pink is one of my mom's favorite colors so I reused the roses as a border
and accented with Stickles. Pearl bling adds another layer of
Victorian goodness to my shadowbox.

To age my box I used a Raw Umber Faber Castell Pitt Pen and ran a line down
the edges and blended with my finger. Pretty pink ruffled ribbon and
faux pearls (harvested from an old hat) add more flair .

My version of Margie Romney Aslett's junk bow. :-)

The heart and key are from Bo Bunny's Et Cetera collection.

My recycled box

My altered gift bag features a vintage image from

Random lace and ribbon fashion a pretty bow and
the edges of my image were distressed with antique
linen distress ink to age it. Double stick tape ensures it
stays in place.

That's all for me today, I had hoped to post this earlier but I am running behind due to family illness this week. I'll wait and share my ideas for table decor on Monday and in the meantime I'll be back on Saturday and Sunday with scheduled DT posts for The Squirrel and The Fox & Make It Monday. Have a great weekend and hope your holiday season is merry and bright. On a sad note, my thoughts and prayers are with the families & friends of the recent shooting victims in Oregon and Connecticut. I don't have words for what we are witnessing here in the US this week and it makes me cherish my loved ones all the more. Stay safe everyone!

Hugs,

Nicecrane Design Inspiration

Good morning/evening everyone, hope your week is off to a good start! I have two quick and super easy projects to share using vintage images from Nicecrane Designs. The first is a simple wall hanging featuring Santa Claus doing what he does best, making toys for good boys and girls. After trimming my image I defined the edges with Black Soot distress ink by Ranger to make it stand out. I'm a big fan of antique or vintage images that have glitter on them so after I let my printed image dry I applied a light coat of Liquitex Matte Gel with a brush and sprinkled MS's white crystal fine glitter all over. I set it aside to dry and went looking for a trim to border my image and decided upon yellow crepe paper. Silver Stickles were added carefully to the edge of one side and I set it aside to dry overnight but a few hours should be enough to set the glue. To add my border trim I placed double stick tape along the back edges of my image and adhered it to my frame gathering it by hand as I went. Holly 3D stickers  accent each corner and a pretty ribbon added to the back created a hanger. I kept this project simple because I am mass producing it for the residents at my mom's nursing home. You would be surprised how excited they get about anyone doing anything for them and they all know & recognize Santa. :) I do have to be careful with the items I make to ensure the residents safety so all embellishment has to be permanent. The matte gel insures the glitter stays on my project and can be found in the art department of Michael's or Hobby Lobby here in the US. I took an extra step to ensure nothing comes off on their hands and sealed it with a spray adhesive. Here's a close up of my sparkly surface and trim.

I have to tell you, this image is gorgeous in person and I love it!

You can use any Christmas image obviously and here's the link to all of Ignacio's Christmas images and the collage sheet with this wonderful image.

Now I have another super quick gift idea for the book readers in your life and it doesn't get any easier than this. Are you ready?

To see all of Ignacio's beautiful bookmarks please visit Nicecrane Designs or click this link here. You'll also find folded bookmarks which are fun and the great part is the work has been done for you. Just add a tassel and message on the back, if you want, and you are done. Even though we live in a highly technological age and e-readers are all the rage, nothing beats holding a tangible book and enjoying the text & pictures.

Have fun today crafty people and I'll be back throughout the week with altered art, mixed media, ornaments, a fun project for your Christmas table and more featuring Nicecrane Designs.

Hugs,
Lisa xx

Christmas Tags with Nicecrane

by water...

Hi, so glad you stopped by today! It's been a while since I've been able to showcase some of Ignacio's beautiful vintage images at his online store, Nicecrane Designs. A shoulder injury is to blame but so happy to report that I'm on the mend and back in my crafty room. :) I'll be back all next week with new and exciting projects showcasing some of my favorite images from Nicecrane. Today's offering is four tags featuring vintage images of Santa Claus which I adore. As you'll see, sometimes Santa has to get out of the sleigh and adapt his method of gift delivery to good boys & girls all over the world. My method of gift giving is not quite as exciting as Santa's but I do try and make my packages look as festive as possible. For my tags I printed out two collage sheets and trimmed each image with a paper cutter. I made two handmade tags using a plain manila folder and the other two were created with dies and a pre-made tag. Note: I've added Stickles to each one because it is holiday time and I wanted a bit of sparkle under the tree. ;) Now here's the other three with close ups of each.

Vintage blue pom pom trim adds to the

Love the steampunk feel of this one,
couldn't resist using Sprighly Sprockets
dies to embellish.

I used Spellbinders 2010 Christmas Ornament dies
and Pink Paislee's City Sidewalks paper collection.

It seems everyone this year is running behind in their Christmas preparations. If you are I'll have some last minute gift, table setting, and home decor ideas that I will be sharing throughout next week featuring images from Nicecrane. In the meantime you can check out all of the vintage goodness that Ignacio has to offer by visiting Nicecrane Designs and be sure to visit the blog for more inspiration as well. One more thing before I go, a big welcome to Alison (aka butterfly) who recently joined the design team. I am thrilled she's on board with us and you'll want to check out her first DT project, The Year in Poetry, here. :) Here are the fab collage sheets I worked with.

Halloween Tags by Nicecrane Designs

Designed for Nicecrane Designs

I'm back today with more Halloween projects featuring Halloween Tags by Nicecrane Designs. One of the many benefits of working with digital images is that you can customize them to fit your crafting need and storage is a breeze. I imported my tags into Word and sized them to fit on my die cut rosette which I backed with a lacey circle die by Spellbinders. I used a standard circle large die also by Spellbinders to die cut my tag image and putting my medallion together was a snap. It also helped that I found these delightful treat boxes by Martha Stewart on sale because I'm in the process of putting a rather large Halloween goody basket together for the residents at my mom's nursing home. Now my biggest hurdle is making sure I keep the sugar free (for diabetic patients) boxes separate from the regular candy. ;)

Here's another photo featuring a second tag in the set and a preview sheet that shows all five. I love the shadow effect on the lettering and images and in the stamping world that is something hard to do. Sometimes it turns out like we want it to and sometimes it doesn't. (I know from experience lol.)

Halloween with Nicecrane Designs

Designed for Nicecrane Designs

Hello fellow paper crafters and welcome! I'm sharing a card today that features a vintage image from Vintage Halloween DSL by Nicecrane Designs. For inspiration I'm using the sketch at Tuesday Morning Sketches #168 and I love the layered panels on this one. I distressed the edges with spiced marmalade which gives it a pop of color and used numbers in place of a sentiment since my image already had a sentiment on it. I nabbed the Trick or Treat sticker from a MS Countdown to Halloween kit I bought last year and used it. Black bling on the harlequin panel and the four corners of my vintage image add a little pizzazz and twine helps complete my sketch requirement and gives me entry into another challenge. Simple and sweet spooky!

Here's a preview showing all of the Vintage Halloween DSI images.

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:

If you are in the market for Halloween images check out the selection at Nicecrane Designs. I'll be back tomorrow with a preview of the Halloween Tags digi set so I'll see ya then.
Happy Crafting!

Lisa

Vintage Flowers

Designed by Lisa S. for Nicecrane Designs

Hi everyone, hope your week has been going well so far. I'm excited to share two cards & a gift tag that I made using Nicecrane Design's Flowers From Vintage Books CS. The images are gorgeous and can be used for your crafting and home decor needs. They not only make beautiful cards but their excellent to use on altered projects and for framing. A collection of these flowers framed individually or as a group would make a wonderful accent to any wall. I can also see them decoupaged on an altered gift box with matching note cards inside, perfect for gift giving any time of the year. I'm including two preview sheets that feature the floral collage sheets, my projects today are from the first collage sheet but I can't wait to work with the second one. ;-)

The possibilities are endless but for my purposes today I created cards to send to Operation Write Home. This organization collects handmade cards from crafters and sends them to areas where US troops are deployed overseas. Let's face it, there aren't any Hallmark's in the deserts of Afghanistan lol. As most of you know, my son joined the Army in April of this year and he is currently in training but will most likely be stationed overseas next year when he graduates. This organization assists  military personnel everywhere in reaching out to their loved one's with a card. If you would like more information or would like to participate in this worthy cause click here.  Here's my second card and gift tag and as you can see there are no embellishments. OWH requests that you send cards that are not dimensional so they can be mailed easily and no additional postage is required. I did include bows but they will mash flat and on the purple card I do have low profile pearls but they do not add weight or too much height so I think I'm good. Hope so! You can see why I love using these gorgeous vintage images now. They don't require a lot of fuss because they make a terrific stand alone focal point.
