Moving Parts

 Hello and welcome!

I'm excited about our new challenge, Moving Parts, at Top Tip Tuesday. Any time you add something that moves on a card it just elevates it to a new level. Elaine is our hostess for the next two weeks and she is sharing a wonderful tutorial on how to create a wiper card. I highly recommend it and I hope you'll also check out the amazing inspiration by my teamies and our guest designer.

As for my card, I decided to create an Accordion Fold Moving Card. You can customize the width of the accordion based on the size card you create. For example, my card is A2 size (4 1/4 x 5 1/2) which means that my accordion needs to be 3 inches wide to allow the designer paper to be shown on both sides. (For a 5 x 7 card I would want the width to be 3 1/2 inches.) I placed it on my Scor Pal and scored it a 3", 4 1/2", 6", 7 1/2" and 9 inches. Use the bone folder that comes with your scoring tool to fold the score lines. You can leave it that way or decorate the top with a border punch, die or corner rounder. I opted for a border punch for the front and corner rounder for the back to dress it up a bit. On the inside you'll want to decorate it by cutting panels for the front inside and back covers plus the four other panels where you can stamp a message/image or write a note. Punch a hole and thread ribbon from back to front and tie in a bow to close it. To adhere my accordion I used double stick tape and secured it in the middle but you can put it anywhere. Here's a side view showing it closed, it looks like a present waiting to be opened. :)

This is what it looks like when opened.

Make It Monday #138 with Meljen's Designs

Hi and welcome back for a new linky party at Make It Monday!

Congratulations to our Featured Entry and Winning Commenter of MIM #139. We are happy to welcome Meljen's Designs back as our sponsor this week and my card features her Oval Cherry Frame digital image. I paired it papers from Webster's Pages and I love the brown, red and yellow colors together, they are so warm and rich. Sort of like a cherry pie hence my stamped sentiment by MFT. Obviously it is a reference to "the" Martha whose last name is Stewart. We all know she's a domestic goddess and can bake up a storm but I'll gladly challenge her with my cherry pie. ;) So, go ahead and eat your heart out Martha lol.

For the inside of my card I cut out a cherry jam jar from the dp and  inked the edges with frayed corduroy distress ink by Ranger. A red polka dot strip was cut from the dp and I stamped a note of thanks by Verve on the inside. Perfect card to give a friend or loved one and I'm sure a home baked cherry pie would gladly be accepted as well.

Here's a peek at the inside...

Pick of the Week is...
#11 Suman

I love her paper cut leaf card! I certainly do not have the patience that Suman does but I wish I did. The detail is exquisite and I love that she plans on sharing this card with a friend.

Thanks Suman for sharing your talent with us at Make It Monday!

That's all for me today, thanks for dropping by!

Make It Monday #137 with Pink Paper Paradise

That's right!
Our very own Michelle, founder of Make It Monday, is our sponsor this week. Earlier in the year she opened an online shop, Pink Paper Paradise, where she sells Copic markers, refills, airbrush kits, and blending card plus stamps, ink pads, dies and much more. Being that I'm in the US and she currently doesn't ship overseas I didn't have one of her stamps to create with so I am using a Saturated Canary digi called Princess Rose Red.

I had fun creating this art journal page and I took extra care not to "over do" it. It's easy for me to get carried away sometimes ;) but I really wanted to keep it simple. I added some colored texture paste to my sun using a Crafter's Companion stencil and I like the dimension it added. The rays were hand cut from She Art paper by Christy Tomlinson and everything on the page was shaded with Faber-Castell Pitt Pens. The background was created with Faber-Castell Gelatos which are so vibrant and colorful. I did not gesso my page first (which I recommend doing) so I had to mist the page with water to blend the colors. Still worked but they blend better if you apply a coat of gesso first. Here are few more close ups...

I used the following Copic's on my art journal page:
E000, E01, E11, E25, E31, E33, E35, Y21, YG23, B000, B23, R27, R46, 100

Now for my Pick of the Week which is...

with this amazing mini kimono paper creation. I love it and I'm always inspired by those who can manipulate paper into fantastic creations like this one. There are more photos to be seen so pop over to her blog to see the different views.

Thanks Ria for sharing your talent with us at Make It Monday!

Furry Friends

Hello and welcome!

Congratulations to our Winner and Top 3 of Inspired by a Song or Movie.

"Furry Friends" is the brand new challenge at The Squirrel and The Fox and our fabulous sponsor for the next two weeks is Ellephantastic. The cute little bear, Rosie, is the sponsor's image and it's perfect for my baby card. As you can see, when the ribbon is pulled on my waterfall card it flips to say B is for bear. :) I stamped the green cardstock with a dot background stamp and the white 1.75 x 1.75 squares were stamped with flowers and alpha's until the last panel where Rosie appears. I stamped my sentiment on the pull tab and added a few bling flowers by Hero Arts to each of the white panels. Super simple and sweet!

A challenge after my own heart, Faux Stitching. :)

That's right, for the next two weeks we want to see faux stitching on your paper creations at Top Tip Tuesday. My card features Pricilla Pie, one of the many beautiful images to choose from at Krista's online shop, Saturated Canary.

This was a fun card to create and here's my TIP: Rub ons make faux stitching a breeze. That's right, those "stitches" on my image panel are rub ons. That's my kind of sewing. ;)

That's all for me today, I do hope you'll pay our guest designer, Dorte, a visit and the design team to see more inspiration.

Happy Crafting,
Lisa

Make It Monday #136 with Bugaboo Stamps

Welcome!

A new linky party just opened at Make It Monday and our sponsor this week is the super cute and fun Bugaboo Stamps. I'm a fan of the JJ digital images at Bugaboo and this image, JJ Gardening, looks right at home on my mixed media art journal page. For those of us here in the US it's springtime which means it is time to spruce up the yard and plant new flowers. That was my inspiration for this mixed media project and it was fun to get my supplies out and just play. It's very therapeutic and I highly recommend it. :)

Thank you Bugaboo Stamps for supplying the design team with images to create with!

Now for my Pick of the Week which is...

I love the colors Julia used and that was the initial attraction for me. However, the reason I chose it as my POTW was the post she wrote that explained the meaning behind her art journal page. I highly recommend you read it HERE for yourself. Thanks Julia for sharing your talent with all of us at Make It Monday!

Make It Monday #135 with Milk Coffee

The new linky party is OPEN at Make It Monday, hope you'll join us. Before I get to the sponsor info I'd like to welcome the newest design team member to MIM, Cindy. We are so happy to have her on board with us! Do check out her blog and the crafty inspiration you'll find there. :) Our sponsor this week is Milk Coffee and I'm using the delightful Tiffany in the Wonderland digital image. Such a fun image to create with and there's plenty more at Milk Coffee's Etsy online store so enjoy browsing the selection and shopping.

I used a Spellbinders Wonky Rectangle die to create a window for my image and lined it with ruffled ribbon from May Arts. The Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat and HELLO sentiment are from Crafty Secrets and I added red roses from the Red Queen's garden (don't tell her or it will be "off with my head").  The paper is from Prima's Almanac collection and I love the clock faces, spoon and bee with crown image on it. Perfect for an Alice in Wonderland themed card. :)

Now for my Pick of the Week which is...

Song or Movie?

Hi everyone!
It's good to be back and I'd like to take a moment to thank my wonderful teamies for covering my commenting while I was away. They are the best! The new challenge at The Squirrel and The Fox is Inspired by a Song or Movie. This one should get your mojo going and you can guess by my sentiment that I chose song. Do you know who sings Soak Up the Sun? Cheryl Crow, of course, and here's a line or two...

I'm gonna soak up the sun
Gonna tell everyone
To lighten up (I'm gonna tell 'em that)
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up o I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna soak up the sun

and this chorus is sure to go round and round in your head :)

I'm gonna soak up the sun
Got my 45 on
So I can rock on.
