The Squirrel and The Fox Challenge #35

Front View of Mini Book

Welcome to the first challenge for 2013, Anything Goes, at The Squirrel and The Fox!

We're sponsored by Robyn's Fetish and I'm using their Sunflower 1 image on the cover of my mini book. I love sunflowers and you might note that I've used this image before but what can I say, I really like it. :) A big thank you to Robyn's Fetish for providing the design team with images to play with! You can visit the challenge blog to see what my teamies created with their images or click their links on my right sidebar.

Now for my Mini Book which features some of my favorite quotes and Scriptures. It will sit on my desk and provide instant encouragement, anytime. I should note that I used black medium weight chipboard for the base and cut each one to 4.5" square. A Cinch binding machine made it a snap to put this project together and I opted to bind it at the top so each page will flip easily.

I used dp's from October Afternoon's Modern Homemaker collection and cs in my three main colors of red, yellow and black. All of the edges were distressed with Black Soot Distress Ink and black alpha's from The Paper Studio and red tiny type alpha's from Cosmo Cricket spell out the title on the front cover. Throughout I've used various stamps and dies and you can check the supply list for those details.

Super fun project that inspired me to make more of these to give as gifts. Everyone can use a little encouragement, right. Thanks for taking the time to visit me today!

Congrats to the Winners and Top 3 of Challenges #33 & #34!!!

Happy Crafting,

Challenge #32 - Summer or Winter

It's December 1st and time for a new challenge at The Squirrel and The Fox where we'd like to see your summer or winter themed paper crafting projects. Here in America we are entering the winter season and the days are getting colder in my neck of the woods so I opted for a summer card to warm me up. ;) The sunflower is a favorite of mine and this image provided by Robyn's Fetish was a pleasure to create with. Be sure to check out what the design team made to inspire you using more of Robyn's wonderful images by visiting the challenge blog or by clicking their links on my right sidebar.

For sketch inspiration I played along with this fun sketch at Sweet Sketch Wednesday by Arlana Patten.

Ghoulish Greetings Everyone!

It's time for another fun challenge at Top Tip Tuesday and this time our lovely hostess is Annette. She'd like to see "Things with Wings" and if you'll drop by the TTT blog you can see the wonderful tutorial she created on how to create clouds. Be sure to check it out (it's awesome) and her pretty card as well. You can view all of my teamie's inspiration by visiting the TTT blog or clicking their links on my right sidebar. As for the challenge theme it can be anything with wings (i.e. dragonflies, bees, bats, birds, planes, butterflies, pesky flies, moths, ladybug, fairy, dragon, etc.) and if you choose to leave a tip please put TIP by your name when you link up. You can enter up to 3 projects and 3 tips so good luck everyone and congratulations to our current winners! Here's my Top Tip which I used on this card-if your stamped image needs to be a little larger simply outline with a pen/sharpie and color in with a dark color. No one will ever know unless you tell them, so don't. ;)

Robyn's Fetish  supplied the design team with images to create with and we're very appreciative. I loved the BOO Word Art  and there are so many ways to use this fun image. I promised to share a tip about word art and here it is: cut your letters out & mat for a bolder presentation. They visually stand out and it allows you to change the orientation making the image more versatile. I also have an enabler alert to share if you are a fan of Robyn's Fetish - they are having an Autumn Sale with 35% off all inventory through October 31st. :) On to my card, I printed the image on Choice Snow White paper, cut the letters, colored with Copic markers, embellished with purple stickles and matted to black cardstock. I followed along with the sketch at Sweet Sketch Wednesday #174 for inspiration and it only occurred to me as I looked at my finished card that there wasn't one thing in sight with a wing on it. Seriously, are you kidding me? LOL A few stamped & fussy cut bats fixed my predicament though. :) I think if my head wasn't attached I'd be in real trouble these days. :(  The papers I used are from a fun little Halloween pack by Pebbles called Tricks and Treats and three Bazzill buttons with twine help me stay on track with my sketch. Taylored Expression's Frightful Night stamp set supplied me with my sentiment and the flying bat stamp from the Fright Night Favors  set. I used a banner from the Easy Rosette 017 by The Cat's Pajamas to place my sentiment on and it was stamped in Dusty Concord Distress Ink and the edges were outlined with Black Soot Distress Ink by Ranger. My black metallic ribbon is from American Crafts and was also a sketch requirement. I love making 6x6 cards because there's so much real estate space, as they say, to work with.

One Layer Card

We have a brand new challenge at Top Tip Tuesday for you. The lovely Deneen is our hostess this fortnight and she is challenging you to create a card with only one layer. Before you panic she's put together a fabulous tutorial on the TTT blog with great ideas for making your one layer card stand out. Click the link to view it and all of the amazing inspiration by my teamies and our guest designers. The DT was privileged to work with images from Robyn's Fetish and my card features Gilded Christmas Dove. I determined what colors I wanted to use and laid the base color down with Copic's. To get the stained glass effect I was going for I applied opal liquid pearls on the body of the dove and stickles in red, green, yellow, and royal blue to highlight the graphic design. My tip-I used a black Copic marker to outline the edge of my digital image which visually lifts it off the page. A craft knife helped me trim a few of the tail feathers setting my dove in motion and I'll use a die cut label to cover my teeny tiny cuts on the inside. Some of us on the DT struggled with this challenge, myself included, and Samantha was kind enough to let us add some bling and ribbon if it wasn't too much. ;) So I did and now it doesn't feel so bare lol.
