I have an altered journal cover, which Finnabair inspired, to share today. Recently I attended a two day class with her at Donna Downey Studios. We learned so much! She's a natural teacher who encourages you to find your style using her mixed media techniques.
For my cover I wanted a metallic look and played heavily on texture.
Hope you like it!
It's Finn's love of black gesso that first drew me to her style.
I love the way it makes the colors pop.
Love her line of Mechanical metal elements by Prima.
Micro beads are a good thing.
I used them to create a falling water effect.
The trio of white flowers are from Wendy Vecchi's Studio 490 line and I left them in their natural state. The face was a remnant from a Mardi Gras pin I found in my alterable stash and it received a coat of black gesso and gold, silver and brushed pewter paints. Love bringing old things to new life.
This was taken on Saturday the 18th at Donna Downey Studios in Huntersville, North Carolina. She is an awesome teacher and I highly recommend her classes!!
More to come next week!
Thanks for the visit, have a great weekend everyone.

Lots of details to take. I've been looking at this, admiring it, for quite some time now, enlarging the image, and I realize I wouldn't even know where to begin putting everything together. It looks amazing!
LOVE the journal cover! AWESOME! And the photo of you and FINN is Super, too! I love her, too!
You lucky duck! That must have been an amazing class. Your journal cover is super loaded with goodies. Microbeads.....hmmm forgotten I even have lots of those. LOL No surprise there. I've forgotten more of what I have than I remember. Can't wait to see what else you created. Hugs!
What a marvelous journal cover Lisa! Love everything about it - the pastes, all the ephemera - it's just beautiful! and so nice to see your photo - all this time I thought you were a white rabbit!! Julia xx

What a gorgeous cover!! I really like all the pieces you've used, but that face piece is extra wonderful!
Hi! I found you through a comment you left on the Finnabair website. :)
I love the layers you've added to your journal cover. Very "Finnabair-like" indeed. ;) I REALLY wanted to go to one of her classes this year so I'll be watching out for the post about your experience!
Gosh...the layers, details, texture...so mazing, Lisa. I just want to touch it. What a stunning piece of art.
