K is for Kissing

Our new challenge at ABC Christmas Challenge is

~ K is for Kissing ~ 

and when I saw the theme on the DT blog I immediately thought of this cute penguin couple. The Mrs. hung up mistletoe so there will definitely be some smooch 'in happening in this igloo. ;) I think penguins are so cute and this card will go to my hubby. For the first time ever I'll be ahead of the game with my Christmas cards. Usually it's a stressful time with all the hustle and bustle of the holidays but I'll be organized this year and that will be a treat!

I popped the penguins up on foam dots for dimension and colored them with Copic markers. The designer papers are from the Pebbles - Winter Wonderland - 6 x 6 paper pad and the white glitter paper is from a 6 x 6 paper pad called Holiday Glitter by Craft Smith. The penguins, igloo, mistletoe and Smooches sentiment are from the Penguin Pals stamp set by Taylored Expressions.

On the inside I stamped a snowflake (TE's Sparkle and Cheer) randomly in tumbled glass Distress Ink. The sentiments are from My Favorite Things and were a promotional gift.

Disney Mini Album, Part 5

Happy Friday everyone!!!

I'm back today with my last installment of the Disney 8 x 8 Mini Album that I created for my daughter. Every day last week I shared posts on how I created this mini plus a tutorial which included templates for you to use. You can see that post here (there's a link in it which takes you to a hidden page) and it's been updated to include a tutorial on page construction. I have photos of page 6 to share so let's get started.

I used black cardstock as the base for all of my pages. This is my tri-fold page but I didn't stop there. 

To the left and right pages I added small flaps.

I didn't stop with the addition of side pages nor flaps...I went upward and outward and added 3 large accordion style photo mats...if you flip it down it reveals...

I wanted this page set to hold several photos. As you can see from this peek there are waterfall photo albums on both outer flaps plus large waterfalls on the side pages. There's a fold down flap with a pocket for storing tickets, etc.. I cut hands from a SVG file (link below) but this time I reversed the layers and used black on top, they'll hold a large photo in place. I layered Mickey and Minnie silhouette heads together and tucked it into the deep pocket. She can journal on one side and place a photo on the other side.

These Disney elements - Mickey's pants, tie and head w/ears - are from SVG files that I purchased on Etsy here. I cut them with my Silhouette Cameo and layered the elements. There's a magnet in the tie that matches up with one on the base layer of the waterfall album that keeps everything in place. As you'll notice I kept everything on this page spread symmetrical.

Again I used magnets to close the waterfall album and I added 3D Disney stickers to each tie. This one features Mickey's head while the right side tie features his pants. The ties are in a different SVG file which you can find on Etsy here.

 

I created 3 large photo mats that graduate in size. On the 1/2" strips you can add another dp to cover which I plan to do as a finishing touch.

I love these Disney papers and to add some visual interest I used the We R Memory Keepers Stub corner punch on the bottom corners on the front side and the upper corners on the reverse side.

When you close the page you can see the back side of the right page, there's a deep pocket for storing maps, daily itinerary, etc. I used another cut out from the SVG file on the bottom and added a flip style album at the top.  

On the outer flap, on both sides, I created matching waterfall albums with 8 double sided photo mats. Another photo can be added to the base paper which has a 3.5" x 5" photo mat giving her a total of 17 photos per album.

To close my waterfall album I added a magnet to a double sided Mickey head (EK Success punch) and glued it to polka dot ribbon. The magnet pairs up with a hidden magnet under the first photo mat and I used Basic Grey's large magnets. They're strong and will keep the album closed. 

This photo shows the back page (on left) and the front side of page 6 on the right. Both feature more photo opportunities, a flip style album on the left with a deep pocket then on the right there are 3 photo mats for Tomorrowland pictures.

Let Them Eat Cake

3 Tier Cake cutting file by The Cutting Cafe

Hi everyone! Welcome back to Adventures in Paperland and thanks for being here. :)

I'm sorry if you've been waiting for my Disney Mini Album page tutorial that was due to be up on Monday. With our travel plans the past two weekends and celebrating our 30th anniversary yesterday it's been kinda busy lately. I'll have a full step by step tutorial up on Friday, promise. 

Today's post features two of my favorite things in life - CAKE and Alice in Wonderland. I'm literally counting the days until Through the Looking Glass is in theaters on the 27th. I don't know whether it was actually Marie Antoinette that said "Let Them Eat Cake" but whoever did, I totally agree with them. In fact, Julia Child had it right when she said "A Party without Cake is just a Meeting". Cakes are simply what parties are all about!  I'm hosting a "Dadchelor" party for my son and DIL in July and I spent last Friday touring my way around Nashville and test driving cupakes and buttercream icing for the upcoming party. In the end it was decided that we'd have a multi-tiered cake stand with cake at the top surrounded by layers of sweet and savory cupcakes. I can't wait!! However, I don't recommend taste tasting sweet stuff all day while forgoing a regular lunch. I was nearly in a sugar coma by the time I got home lol. 

This sweet cake won't add inches to your waistline nor calories. It simply adds a sweet touch to any party decor or it can also function as a 3 tiered gift box or 2 or 1 depending on what you need. I glued my layers together but left the top layer where I can open the top of the box. This fall when my daughter turns 22 she'll find a pretty birthstone ring in it that I think she'll love. It will be her last year of college so it's kinda the last chance to really spoil her. She's done an amazing job keeping a near 4.0 GPA while achieving so many other accomplishments. We couldn't be prouder of her!

The scallop wrap on the middle layer is also included, along with 2 other wrap styles, in the cutting file. The paper flowers are in the file as well and I added yellow pearls to the centers and small flower bling along the bottom row. The bows were cut from The Cutting Cafe's - Tall Present Shaped Card Template...Cutting File.

The pearl band serves as decoration while also assisting to open the box easily from the top. My cake topper is a laser cut Alice from the Pork Chop Show at Etsy. She came in a set of six laser cut images and you'll be seeing more of Alice and her friends when I share an altered printer's tray project in July. The pretty paper flowers are part of the The Cutting Cafe's cutting file -3 Tier Cake - and there are various types and sizes included.

Disney Mini Album, Part 4

Hello!

I'm back with the fourth installment of my Disney Mini Album. Each day I've been breaking my posts into sections where I share parts-binding/covers, interactive pages, tutorial and templates-of the mini I created for my Disney loving daughter. I received an email requesting that I show how I attached the pages to the flaps so there will be a photo tutorial with instructions for page 6 on my blog Monday. So today it's all about page 5, let's get started. :)

There's a pocket filled with Mickey SVG file cut outs that she can personally add where she wants. 

They can be used for photo mats or to journal on. The Walt Disney World is a cardstock title which she can add to any page/pocket. To the right of the pocket is a Disney Mickey 3D sticker.

At the top I added more stickers spelling out Mickey Mouse. Love the layered look of these alpha's!

There's a hidden pocket on the right side of the page.

The large photo mat does double duty, on this side you can slip a photo under Mickey's hand and tuck in maps, daily activity page, etc. inside the pocket. There's a row of washi tape along the left side and a border from the paper collection-Busy Scrapper's 12 x 12 by HOTP-at the bottom.

On the back side is a large photo mat.

When you flip the page this is the next page you see. I added a clear Minnie Mouse stick along with her name. The pocket was created from ephemera from the paper collection and another clear sticker-Certified Mickey-was added also.

It opens to a tri-fold spread with flip style photo albums, pockets, large photo mats and hidden journal spots.

This cute Mickey paper had to make an appearance and I used it to cover the outside of the matching flip style photo albums on each side. There's a row of washi tape at the bottom of each opposite page.

There's a magnet closure to ensure the album stays shut.

On the base page (center) there's a flip down photo mat which stays in place with a magnet. 

There's a spot for a large photo on it and it flips open to reveal more mats inside the pocket.

Stickers were added to embellish each side.

I used a MS corner punch on the four corners, need to straighten out the bottom left one again. :(

When you flip the page this is the back side of page 5. It has a large waterfall album, 4 x 6 on it. There's a free template available by clicking the link in this post here. Do you see the white tape strip? That's where page 6 goes and it will be live on my blog Monday with a complete step by step tutorial of how to assemble the pages and add interactive flaps/pockets. 

It has a magnetic closure and I addressed how I made the wrap to close it in yesterday's post. There's a smaller version in that post also along with a template for it as well. The Mickey button is a sticker.

It flips up and down and there are twelve 4 x 6 photo mats.

Disney Mini Album, Part 3

Hello and Welcome!

I'm here to share pages 3 and 4 of my interactive Disney Mini Album. It's been fun this week and we'll wrap up tomorrow with the final two pages. Yesterday I shared the templates I created for building my pages and two waterfall templates which I designed based on the dimensions I needed. You can get to the hidden page where the tutorial and templates are by clicking the link in this post. 

Once again I have a ton of photos to share so grab a cuppa and let's get started.

We ended on Tuesday with the left page and today we begin with the page on the right. I used a fun dp from HOTP Busy Scrapper's 12 x 12 paper pack and Disney stickers to create this one.

Pluto is on the cover of the flip style album.

 It opens to reveal a photo mat and another Mickey head from the SVG file here that I cut using my Silhouette Cameo.

She can slip another photo behind his ears or tuck a memento in there.

You turn the page to reveal the back side of the left flap (page) and you can see the outside of the right flap (page). I used dp's again from the same paper collection, added some washi tape and clear stickers. On the left side I'll place a family photo that was taken in the Magic Kingdom so that's why I left that place blank. On the yellow mat I'll add another photo as well.

 It opens to reveal a tri-fold page with a large pocket that folds down and on the right there's a photo mat that opens which adds space for 3 more photos. The Donald Duck pocket holds a tag that has a journaling spot on the back of it.

You can tuck stuff under the blue paper and the white mat underneath it. The Mickey head is magnetized so she can place a program, map, etc. and it will hold in place.

I added washi tape to the sides of each page and across the bottom of this pocket. The Magic cut out is from the ephemera sheet in a page kit by HOTP. Two resin stars are Ice Accents by Queen and Co. and the Mickey hat with ears is a sticker. 

The band of yellow Mickey heads is washi tape.

The large pocket and tag front are ephemera from the page kit by HOTP.

When you turn the page this starts page 4 on the right. 

This is the back of page 3 and there's a large pocket on the left side. My daughter loves this paper so it had to be included. Not sure what will go on it but it had to be in here. :)

There's a pocket that has Disney stickers and a heart resin Ice Accent by Queen and Company. I may add large photo mats that graduate in size and tuck them in this pocket. We have some cute photos of Minnie's House before Disney went and re-developed that area. It's kind of a sore subject with her, as well as the Mickey water tower leaving Hollywood Studios, so we'll move on. :( 

 
A close up of this cute pocket, I trimmed the bottom off a 12 x 12 dp by Scrapbook Customs and added it to my black cardstock to form a pocket. The polka dot paper is for Disney by SandyLion and you can't think of Minnie Mouse without thinking of polka dots. Mickey and Minnie make such a cute couple! There's a row of washi tape at the top of the pocket as well.

You turn the page to see this one which features another fave paper of hers with another pocket. I added more stickers and a star Ice Accent, the border punch is Bubble Bath by Martha Stewart.

On the left is this fun interactive page with a small waterfall. The template for this waterfall is included with the other free templates in this post here. I created another large pocket from ephemera, added a photo mat tag with a journal spot on the back. The characters at the top are part of the dp and it's also from the Busy Scrapper's paper collection by HOTP. You can see there's a deep pocket on the left of the page and I used Disney stickers to spell out Minnie Mouse, Golly! and added flowers around Daisy Duck.

The waterfall photo album has a magnet closure that's tucked into the wrap I made. I trimmed the Mickey heads from a dp and layered it with white and black cardstock. I corner chomped the corners with my 1/2" We R Memory Keepers punch and added an adhesive button from a Disney sticker pack. A little tip here-determine the length of your wrap on the front, then score a line and another 1/4" from it, to allow for expansion of your photos. 

When you open up the page (forgot to snap a full view of the three pages) you see this in the center. Technically the center page is the base page and it's the one you build your pages from. If you click the link above to see yesterday's post where I shared a free tutorial and templates this will make sense. I used some fun paper from the HOTP paper collection to added it to the front of my deep pocket. A yellow band of cardstock was punched with MS's Ribbon Loop border punch. I love the paper with all of the character's names spelled out in different fonts so I used it as my base paper. Three large photo mats were corner chomped with the We R Memory Keepers Scallop punch.

I cover the back side of each as well so that gives her 6 places for photos or to add a memento like a postcard. We like to collect those everywhere we go. :)

This is the page on the right, another large pocket with a photo mat tag, the smaller Donald Duck pocket is for tucking in a memento.

I added more clear stickers at the top and to the tag.

Okay, last page...the page on the left that is...the one on the right is a sneak peek of page 5. I left this page blank on purpose because I have a 5 x 7 photo that will go here of our most recent trip to Walt Disney World in January 2015. We went together as a family and it was our DIL's very first visit. She was 24 at the time and we couldn't fathom that she'd never been so it was a treat that we were all able to go together. I'm thrilled to say she loved it!

I'll be back tomorrow with page 5...I decided to wait and share page 6 next week. Several people have already asked if I plan to share a step by step of page construction so I'm going to do that. I don't have time with travel in my plans this weekend to edit the photos and such so page 6 with a tutorial on page construction will be up on Monday hopefully. Like I mentioned in yesterday's post if you have questions feel free to email me...I responded last night and I'll check again tonight but if it goes a few days without word please understand that right now my schedule is crazy and it's about to get worse. ;)
